This is a unit centered around Ray Bradbury’s “All Summer in a Day.”  The teaching of character traits such as courage, integrity, kindness, perseverance, respect, and responsibility is a byproduct.  Although this is an interdisciplinary unit, it can easily become adapted to any discipline.

Pick out 4-5 students in the room that are in similar clothing. Put these students in one area of the room, like computer area, and let them do whatever they like for the rest of the day. Give the remainder of the class a huge assignment. Watch and observe how students react. Keep this up for approximately 15 minutes. This could lead to a class discussion on how minorities are treated.
